Ashley Lum

Piano Teacher (BMus, MMus)

 Ashley is a Malaysian-born pianist and music educator who holds a Bachelor (Hons) Degree in Piano Performance from UCSI University, where she studied under Lee Yin Hwa. She later pursued her Master of Music in Piano Performance at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester, where she studied under Frank Wibaut. Currently, she is pursuing a PgDip in Piano Accompaniment with David Jones at RNCM.

Ashley has participated in masterclasses and performed for several renowned pianists, including Stephen Hough, Aquiles Delle Vigne, Gabriel Kwok, and Eleanor Wong. She has a keen interest in both solo and collaborative performance, having been invited to perform with the RNCM Brand New Orchestra and the Malaysia Century Chinese Orchestra.

As a soloist and chamber musician she performed in several cities within the UK, including Manchester, Bury, Lancaster, and Sheffield. She has received accolades for her performances, including the First Prize and Expressive Performance Special Award in the UK International Music Competition (Professional Category) and the Silver Prize and Country Representative in the Classical Music Award (Professional Category).

 Ashley is equally passionate about music education, particularly for young children. She has undertaken training in music education with various teaching philosophies, such as Kodaly and Orff Schulwerk, to improve her teaching skills. Ashley firmly believes in nurturing the unique talents of every student and tailoring her lesson plans accordingly.

As a result of her efforts, her students have consistently achieved a 100% pass rate with merit and distinction in ABRSM exams, with some of them winning prizes in different competitions. Fluent in English, Chinese, Cantonese, and Malay, Ashley has benefited from growing up in a multicultural environment, which has enabled her to communicate effectively with her students from diverse backgrounds.
